Hello my lovelies! Not sure if many of you know, I was born in India and moved at an early age of 7 to the United States of America. As a first-generation of Indian American, I adapted quickly to the American way of life. For example, summer BBQs, watching Disney movies and even a crush on Jonathan Taylor Thomas during my preteen years.
As we must integrate and embrace the American culture, my parents always taught me to preserve our South Asian cultural values and traditions. Of those traditions, hair care is of most importance among many traditions like Indian food, language, and fashion.
The Pantene Nutrient Blends Collection is made of ingredient blends inspired by cultures from all around the world, so I was inspired to take a step back and discover what’s good about my heritage and cultural roots. There are reasons why I incorporate specific rituals into my self-care routine, and many of them are passed down from my mother.
Ever since birth, natural oils have been part of my life and our culture. Whether it was used for body massages as a baby with coconut oil or using castor oil for my cradle cap. Not only are oils therapeutic and good for you but also safe with no side effects.
I vividly remember when I was a little girl going to school in India, my mother would apply coconut oil in my hair and braid it every morning before school.
A common belief across South Asia is that the natural oils such as coconut and castor oil help promote silky and long hair, which has high significance in our culture. These oils also help your hair become thicker and stronger, and are used to form protection from little critters (like as repellent to lice)
Now that I’m a mother, I find myself appreciating those values and traditions, especially now that I have a daughter. I want my daughter to be able to identify as Indian American by passing on some of the Indian traditions we had growing up in India. I have also taken a similar approach to teach my daughter about these values and traditions. When she was born, I made sure we used castor oil for her hair and cradle cap.
Another cool thing about being a parent is how often I’m reminded of my own childhood. As she gets older I cant wait to share my childhood stories and South Asian traditions that she will be able to use into her life. For now, every day before school I lightly apply coconut or castor oil to her hair like my mom used to do.
Pantene has discovered a new world of hair care free of the old and in with new treasures from around the world, by launching the new Nutrient Blends Collection. There are multiple collections, and I’ve been using the Fortifying Damage Repair Collection with Castor Oil. It is made with Vitamin E-rich Castor Oil which is derived from the seeds of the Ricinus Communis plant grown in India. The Castor Oil Collection is free of sulfates, parabens, dyes and mineral oils.
The Castor Oil Shampoo cleansed, strengthened and protected hair. I’ve now begun using this to gently cleanse my hair on my wash days. The Castor Oil Conditioner nourished and restored my hair with a silky shine – a great moisture boost for every wash day!
Let me just start off by saying that I love the packaging, so luxe. In one use, I can tell a difference in my damaged hair from constantly using heating tools and hair coloring. Instantly, it felt more moisturized. It also gave my hair a nice shine to it, which makes it look a lot healthier. The smell of this shampoo is so incredible, definitely, my favorite sent scent from them.
If you’re suffering from winter hair like me definitely check out Pantene Nutrient Blends Collection. You can learn more here.
